The annual Culloden Remembrance is held at the cairn in Knoydart, Pictou County. This memorial commemorates the April 16, 1746 Battle of Culloden which took place south east of Inverness, Scotland. Jacobite forces of Charles Edward Stuart were defeated by troops under the commanded of William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland. The impact on Scottish culture was not just recognition the Jacobite rebellions were at an end, it also signaled the beginning of an attempt through various Acts of Parliament to deny Scottish dress, music, dance through Acts providing for the Abolition and Proscription of the Highland Dress 19 George II, Chap. 39, Sec. 17, 1746. The Memorial was held Saturday April 21 at 11:00. Set aside April 27, 2019 to mark the Culloden Memorial.
