Concessions (Columbus Field)

Welcome to the 147th Antigonish Highland Games; July 9-11 at Columbus Field in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. We are the oldest continuous highland games outside of Scotland since 1863; and honored to be recognized as one of Nova Scotia Tourism’s “Signature” Festivals/Events.

The Games consists of competitions in highland dancing, tug-o-war, piping and drumming, a five-mile road race, and Scottish Heavy Events; and for 2010 the revival of the Farmers’ Walk Championship. Beyond the competition will display some of the finest Scottish culture and music on our Main and Ceilidh Stages.

Traditional attendance for the games is approximately twenty-six hundred people over three days; and as outdoor games we continue rain or shine with no refund to attendees or vendors upon entering the field. For 2010 the field logistics have changed and “Vendor Village” has been divided into two sections, all food vendors in the traditional location and the merchandise vendors to be located near clan tents/activities, close to the entrance of the field.

In an effort to improve our concessions, we will be searching for traditional Scottish food vendors and merchandise vendor products must be of a Scottish/Celtic nature or Made in Atlantic Canada. As well we are asking all food vendors to use only compostable dinner plates when serving food; as we make strides towards a more sustainable event.

Volunteers (Saor-thagraichean)

Our outdoor Scottish festival is now 147 years old and the success of the program is founded on the strength and enthusiasm of our volunteers!

The Antigonish Highland Society recruits 200 - 300 volunteers to run the various events scheduled throughout Highland Games Week. You do not have to be Scottish to volunteer, but when you do volunteer you will be immersed in a sea of colorful tartans and surrounded by the sounds of the pipers, drummers and fiddlers. You will also be able to enjoy the power of the Scottish heavy events, the thrill of tug of war and the finesse of our young Scottish dancers.

If you are interested in being a volunteer at the Games, please complete a volunteer application and email/fax it to our office and we will be in touch with you.
