Canadian Open Farmer’s Walk
Championship |

The Farmer's Walk is done by picking up
two 185lb weights and walking 100 feet
as fast as possible. The Canadian Open
Farmer’s Walk Championship will feature
two athlete heats going head to head for
the best time, prize money and the title
of Canadian Champion.
The Canadian Open Farmer’s Walk
Championship at the 147th edition of the
Antigonish Highland Games will feature
Scottish Heavy Events athletes,
Strongmen and University Football
athletes from all parts of Canada. A new
Canadian Open Farmer’s Walk trophy will
be commissioned for the event and will
be awarded annually to the winning
athlete.
Featuring head to head 2 person heats
will create an intense fierce
competition in each and every heat.
These competitors will leave it all on
the track and will, no |

doubt, establish some world
class times doing so. Spectators will not want
to miss even a single minute of this fast paced,
exciting new event.
Competition Format
1. The Farmers Walk competition will consist of
approximately 20 pre-registered competitors.
(Registration ceases Tuesday July 6 at 5pm).
2. The event would take place directly in front
of the main Grand Stand on Columbus field on
Friday July 9, 2010 beginning at approx 3pm.
3. The format used will 2 person timed heats
over a 100 foot course using 185lb implements.
4. The 3rd and 4th best times would compete in
another heat for 3rd place ($200 CAD)
5. The 1st and 2nd best times would compete in
the Championship Heat for 1st and 2nd place
($500 and $300 CAD)
6. Accepted competitors would have had to
compete in the event in the past or have trained
with the implements prior to registering for the
event.
7. Event will be open to Heavy Event
competitors, StFX athletes (football) and other
persons able to satisfy criteria #6
8. If the approximately 20 athletes do not
pre-register, the selection committee would
consider other eligible athletes who may have
expressed interest after registration ended or
are recruited by the committee and are known to
comply with criteria #6. If there are still less
than 20 athletes registered the committee would
run the event with no less than 16 competitors.
9. All competitors will have to sign a waiver
releasing the Antigonish Highland Games and the
Town of Antigonish of any liability and must be
at least 18 years of age as of July 9, 2010.

10. The registration committee would have to be
satisfied that the accepted applicants met
criteria #6 above but would reserve the right to
refuse applicants beyond 20 competitors or if
any doubt existed as to the actual satisfying of
criteria #6.
11. The Farmer’s Walk committee is committed to
the health and safety of the competitors and as
such reserves the right to disqualify any
competitor determined to be at risk of injury
prior to competing. |
