Signal Hill
Signal Hill is a four-piece acoustic guitar
based band with strong emphasis on four part
vocal harmony. Hailing from Newfoundland,
Canada, this band is currently revered
throughout the country as the quintessential
East Coast group. This has been achieved by
expanding their repertoire beyond that of
standard traditional songs to a repertoire
celebrating music across the decades and genres.
Their arrangements are now woven into the fabric
of east Canadian culture. They play to packed
houses across Canada from four to seven nights a
week all year round. In addition to many other
notable venues, Signal Hill has also been twice
to Moscow, Russia to play the Hard Rock Café and
the Boarhouse Night Club.
Signal Hill is now actively seeking partnership
and/or representation that will allow for a
record to be released worldwide. This would be
possible with the right producer and record
label support. They have a mandate to
continually grow and adapt musically with a
collective musical interest that spans across
many genres. Signal Hill is classic covers and
originals; traditional, country, pop, rock and
jazz. |

Crossfire
Cape Breton’s own Crossfire, a family band, has
been in the makings for the last 20 years. With
all the members playing since they were about 10
years of age, taking the kitchen to the stage
was a natural progression for this group of
cousins.
With the combined stage experience of over 50
years and numerous ECMAs nominations between
individual members, this young talented ensemble
entertains crowds with a drive and enthusiasm
that keeps dance floors bursting at the seams
all night long.
Covering a wide range of songs, from old country
to new rock, from traditional fiddle tunes to
original compositions, Crossfire has what it
takes to engage any crowd. Young and old
appreciate the crossover appeal of this spirited
kinship.
Crossfire is anchored by cousins Brennan and
Aaron MacDonald, both on guitars and vocals.
Brennan, formerly of the ECMA nominated band
Kilt and Aaron, an ECMA nominee in his own right
as a solo artist, are joined by another Kilt
alumni and cousin in Bonny Jean MacDonald on
fiddle. The band is polished by Stephen Gillis
on bass and Neil MacQuarrie on drums and
percussion. |

The Cameron’s
Douglas Cameron with Allan Francis & Lawrence
Cameron
Now at the age of 15, Douglas has been turning
heads in the Cape Breton fiddling community
since the last 6 years. Trained by dedicated
teachers like Bonnie Jean MacDonald, Margie and
Dawn Beaton and Andrea Beaton, Douglas has
absorbed and then exuded the proud history of
the Cape Breton style of Celtic fiddling.
Born and raised in the northern Inverness County
community of Belle Cote, he has been playing in
concerts since the age of 5 on piano, then the
fiddle since the age of 9. Standing ovations
have erupted in venues like the Celtic Colours
International Festival, a Strathspey Place ECMA
Showcase performance in Halifax at the Old
Triangle in 2007, and many concerts around Cape
Breton Island. He already plays many of the
larger square dances in Cape Breton.
J.P Cormier took an intense interest in Douglas'
art and worked with him to record Douglas' first
CD this winter. On the CD, Douglas collaborates
with both well established performers (like JP
Cormier, Hilda Chiasson-Cormier and Joey Beaton)
and some new rising stars (like Marc Boudreau
and Colin Grant). He also includes cuts with his
father, Lawrence, and his grandmother Catherine
(Rankin) Cameron. The CD shows Douglas honouring
the tradition handed down to him by his teachers
and the many great Cape Breton fiddlers that
have shaped the great influence of the Cape
Breton fiddle. |

Colin Grant Band
Lingering somewhere amidst the rich, soulful
roots of traditional Cape Breton music and the
grooves of a thousand branches of rock and funk,
Colin Grant embarks on his latest project: a
dynamic and thoughtful mingling of beats and
melodies from an extensive host of musical
influences. Far from the awkward malaise of
mohawked bag-pipers and kilted punks, the Colin
Grant Band has created a kind of Celtic fusion
that is as much Steely Dan and Yes as it is
Ashley MacIsaac.
With a trad trio comprised of the manic Jason
”leaden-left-hand” Roach (piano, Dawn and Margie
Beaton) and embarrassingly talented Darren
MacMullen (bouzouki, mandolin, guitar, banjo JP
Cormier) Grant hooked up with the rough and
red-eyed blues/funk rhythm section of Merlin
Clarke and Donnie Calabrese (Buck and Kinch, Tom
Fun Orchestra). Together, the group produces a
fervent yet calculated rhythm that backs an
expressively diverse range of tunes. While the
lively sound never strays too distantly from its
Celtic roots, the Colin Grant Band has found an
open ear in everyone from indie scenesters to
blue-haired bingo stampers.
This winter will see the release the Colin
Grant’s second full length album, Fun For the
Whole Family—a highly anticipated follow-up to
the acclaimed Colin Grant solo debut. |
